The twin STEREO observatories were launched aboard a single Delta II launch vehicle from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., (Launch Complex 17, Pad B) on Oct. 25, 2006, at 8:52 p.m. EDT. Within the rocket's third stage, one observatory sat atop the other via a specially designed device. |

Just at liftoff, clouds of smoke and steam rise around the Delta II rocket carrying the STEREO spacecraft on top. Liftoff from Launch Pad 17-B at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station was at 8:52 p.m. EDT, on Oct. 25, 2006.
