Bagging a Spacecraft #2
Download Hi-Res Image
STEREO's "B" observatory is bagged, or covered with a protective material, and ready to be moved to another portion of APL's clean-room facilities where both the "A" and "B" observatories will undergo environmental tests that simulate the effects of launch. Placing a protective cover over a spacecraft protects it from particles, such as dust, that could contaminate an instrument or other portion of a spacecraft.
