Defying Gravity for Deployment Tests

Download Hi-Res Image

APL STEREO engineers conduct a G-negated deployment test of Observatory A's high-gain antenna and one of the spacecraft's solar arrays. During G-negated tests, engineers use a precisely positioned crane (not visible in this photo) with the exact weight over the hinge so they can negate gravity during the deployment tests.
