A lead STEREO engineer at APL tests Observatory A's high-gain antenna. After launch, high-gain antennas are used for downlinking data from, or uplinking commands to, a spacecraft.

The "A" observatory is the one that will be placed "ahead" of Earth in its orbit around the sun.
