A STEREO technician at APL installs a special tape on the "A" observatory's PLASTIC instrument to shield its electronics from electromagnetic interference. All of the electronics onboard both STEREO observatories will be similarly shielded; otherwise, electronic signals emanating from various components and systems onboard an observatory could interfere with one another.
