IMPACT's Boom Arrives; Instrument Integration Begins

Download Hi-Res Image

The IMPACT instrument suite's boom - the first of 16 STEREO instruments - arrived at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in early April 2005. Before installing any instrument onto a spacecraft, technicians inspect and weigh it and conduct an electrical bench check.

Additional instruments are scheduled to arrive in early May 2005 and instrument integration efforts are scheduled for completion in summer 2005.

APL designed and is building the spacecraft platforms housing each observatory's instruments, built by numerous organizations worldwide.
